TrustyFiles is configured to support most home users and work with most software or hardware firewalls. Depending on your network, hardware, and software configuration, you may experience problems, such as:

You can't share (upload) files with friends.

You can't share (upload) files with the P2P network.

You can't establish a network connection or download files.

If you experience problems, try the following changes in order. If the problem remains, go to the next item in the list.

1. Check your Primary Use Profile.
Your TrustyFiles Primary Use profile sets your connection and port settings (see chart below). Check that you have the appropriate Primary Use profile selected.

TrustyFiles Primary Use
Profile Activity P2P Network Connection Initial Port
Public sharing Download, search, and share files with the P2P network. Always Random
Personal Sharing Share files with friends .... and download, search, and share files with the P2P network. On user demand (search, TrustyLink, Magnet Link) 6346 (Default)
Private Sharing Only share files with friends Only on user demand and user confirmation. 6346 (Default)

2. Change the port.
You may need to manually set the port in the Options display and override the setting from the TrustyFiles Primary Use profile.

Personal/Private file sharing. TrustyLinks specify your full computer address. When you send a TrustyLink to a friend, your Internet (IP) address and port must stay unchanged so your friend can connect to your computer and fully download the file. If your friends aren't able to download files from you, make sure that the incoming port option is ON (with a checkmark), so a fixed port number is used.

Depending on your Internet service provider and plan, your Internet (IP) address may change every time you connect to the Internet. Your IP address is displayed in the Network section of your Options display. You should stay online as long as possible. If you disconnect from the Internet and see that the IP address has changed, re-send the file Trustylink to your friend.

Public file downloading and sharing. If you have problems connecting, downloading or sharing with the public P2P network, select one of these cases:

I don't do any personal file sharing. We recommend using our dynamic random ports. This setting gets around firewalls better than a fixed port that may be blocked. Set 'Set incoming port' option to OFF (no checkmark).

I do personal file sharing. If you do BOTH public and personal file sharing try using the fixed port. Make sure that the incoming port option is ON (with a checkmark) and set to a fixed port of 6346 or choose another port number. If that doesn't work, see More Network Troubleshooting below. Depending on your network configuration, you may not be able to share files with the public network and your friends at the same time. If so, you will have to switch the Primary Use option every time your usage changes.

3. More network troubleshooting.
Try the following if you still have network problems.

A. Checkmark the option 'I am behind a firewall.'

B. Set the incoming port to a different fixed port. Some firewalls may block the default port or other ports you select.

C. If your computer is on a local area network, it is connected to the Internet through a router or switch. Verify whether the IP address of your computer is a valid Internet address or a local network-only address. You will likely need to check your router or switch documentation to get the information needed. First check the current IP address.

If the IP address is similar to 192.168.xxx.xxx, it is a local address. Some routers and switches may use other local addresses. Routers and switches typically translate between local and Internet addresses. Sometimes this IP translation doesn't work for file sharing connections. You'll need to change the IP address that TrustyFiles uses. Obtain the actual Internet address of your router or switch. In the TrustyFiles network settings click the checkbox to set the IP Address and enter the router address.

D. Network problems may be caused by your firewall, which can be software on your PC (via Windows XP or specific firewall software) or on your router or switch. Change your firewall settings to allow incoming traffic via port 6346.
