Click the Search button to show the search display, which contains two windows - Search Entry and Search Results.

Search Results

The search results window allows you to view and control your searches. When you submit a search request, TrustyFiles contacts its P2P network neighbors who contact their neighbors, and so on. It takes time for your search request to be propagated through the network and for search results to be returned. The search results window will automatically update as new results are received.

Search Screenshot. Click for full-size image.

Current searches. Individual searches are displayed as tabs at the top of the window. Click on a search tab to display its results. Click a button underneath the tabs to Stop the current search, Send the Search to a friend, or Close and remove that search.

Individual source display. If there are multiple sources, info from the first source is listed along with the total number of sources. A small plus button is displayed to the left of the search result. Click on the button to display all sources. Click on the minus button to hide the individual sources.

Sorting. Click a file display column header to sort or reverse sort the file display based on that column. Resize a column by clicking and dragging the column divider on the right side of the column. Hide a column by dragging the divider all the way to the left to the previous column. Unhide a column by dragging the divider where it was hidden to the right.

The following fields are displayed for each search result.

File name. The name reported from the first source found. Long file names are truncated and end with an ellipsis ("..."). Hover your mouse over the file name or select the file and right click 'Info' to display the complete file name.  FIle name text is color-coded:
> Medium blue - more than 10 results
> Dark blue - 6-10 results
> Green - Already downloading
> Red - Invalid file

File size. For similar files, a larger file size typically indicates a higher fidelity or resolution, or a longer or total clip. Sorting on file size will typically sort by file type as video files are much larger than music files which are larger than photos.

File type. Same as displayed by Windows Explorer. May show the associated file player.

File speed. The fastest reported file transfer speed of all sources.
File sources. The number of P2P network users (or hosts) sharing that file.
File sources. The number of P2P network users (or hosts) sharing that file.
File duration. The time length of the file (audio or video) if provided in the metatag.
File bit rate. The recording bit rate of the file (audio or video) if provided in the metatag.
Use your mouse or keyboard to select one or more files. You have 3 ways to perform a command on the selected file(s):
  Double click to download.
Click a button at the bottom of the window to Download or Send.
Right click to display and select various file commands.
Downloading. When a file is selected for download, an arrow will show on the document icon at the far left of the file display and the file will be added to the Downloads list.
Improved searches. If your search returns no or unsatisfactory results:
Review your search keywords. In most cases file names and metatags are manually created. This leads to file names and metatags that are short, incomplete, or erroneous. Try your search with fewer and less specific keywords to get more results.
Search again at a later time. The dynamic nature of P2P means home users and their connections are constantly dropping in and out of the network. You could be searching an entirely different set of users in a few minutes or a few hours.

Maximize your downloads
There is a lot of turnover in the network as users come and go. If there are several files available, don't just download one. Download multiple files, especially those with the most sources, to maximize your chances of getting the file you want.
