Release Notes

TrustyFiles 3.1.0.21

TrustyFiles 3.1.0.21 rolls up various minor bug fixes and network enhancements accumulated over several months.

TrustyFiles 3.1.0.10

TrustyFiles 3.1.0.10 includes more bug fixes, including a connect/disconnect problem and memory leak.

TrustyFiles 3.1.0.6

TrustyFiles 3.1.0.6 accumulates minor bug fixes and enhancements from prior releases. TrustyFiles Pro 3.1.0.6 adds update detection based on Pro updates, not combined updates as before.

TrustyFiles 3.1

TrustyFiles 3.1 has been substantially updated:

  • The code was thorougly reviewed, resulting in numerous bug fixes and code streamlining for the most stable TrustyFiles ever.
  • Advertising has been changed based on user feedback. TrustyFiles 3.1 now displays limited text ads based on your interests. That replaces the annoying multiple and frequent pop up ads. If you click on one of the text ads, no more ads will be displayed until you exit. Instead of being bombarded by hundreds of ads, you literally could see just two.

TrustyFiles 3.0 is Ultimate P2P, the only file sharing software that connects to ALL top P2P networks (Bit Torrent, Edonkey, Overnet, Gnutella, Gnutella 2, and Kazaa/Fast Track).

TrustyFiles has been entirely rewritten for version 3.0, including both the network core and user interface. Key new Features:

  • Added full Edonkey and Overnet access. TrustyFiles 3.0 searches, downloads, and shares across ALL 6 major P2P networks.
  • Simultaneously download of a single file from ALL major P2P networks and the web for blazing file transfer speed.
  • Uses less memory and CPU
  • Greater stability than TrustyFiles 2.4
  • Microsoft Office 2003 style user interface
  • Integrated media player
  • Search results with music and video duration and bitrate.
  • File ratings and comments
  • Advanced File Information with metadata display
  • Automatic home network setup compatible across all P2P networks.
  • Bit Torrent file association
  • Parental Controls with password, video and graphic disabling, and manual filtering.
  • Managed blocklist updates
  • Download and upload bandwidth controls
  • Industry-standard Magnet links used for Send a Search / Send a File.

Advanced Installation
Keeping TrustyFiles 2.4

You may keep TrustyFiles 2.4, as long as you install TrustyFiles 3.0 to a different directory. Do not install TrustyFiles 3.0 over TrustyFiles 2.4 in the same directory.

  1. Download the TrustyFiles installation program:  Site 1
  2. Shut down TrustyFiles if it is running.
  3. Backup TrustyFiles 2.4 files (optional). Create a backup folder for TrustyFiles 2.4 files. Copy all TrustyFiles 2.4 Data files (default location c:\TrustyFiles\Data\) , including Blocklist.dat, to the folder.
  4. Convert your TrustyFiles 2.4 blocklist (optional). If you've created a custom blocklist, visit the Bluetack web site to convert the blocklist file from TrustyFiles format to PeerGuardian format.
  5. Remove TrustyFiles. Use Add or Remove Programs from the Control Panel. Or from the Start button, select Programs > TrustyFiles > Remove TrustyFiles. This will remove TrustyFiles 2.4
  6. Run the TrustyFiles 3.0 installation program. Double click on the TrustyFiles installation program and follow its directions. Install TrustyFiles 3.0 to a different directory from TrustyFiles 2.4
  7. Copy the converted blocklist file to the TrustyFiles 3.0 Data folder (optional).
  8. Recover TrustyFiles 2.4. If you want to run TrustyFiles 2.4, you'll need to remove TrustyFiles 3.0, re-install TrustyFiles 2.4 into its own directory, and copy the Data folder files back.

Blocklists

TrustyFiles 3.0 does not come packaged with a blocklist like TrustyFiles 2.4. TrustyFiles 3.0 features a blocklist download manager in Options that directly downloads and installs blocklists. Use the blocklist manager on startup and periodically to maintain a current blocklist.

If you use your own blocklist:

  1. Copy or move the Blocklist file (c:\Program Files\TrustyFiles\Data\Blocklist.dat) before you remove TrustyFiles 2.4
  2. TrustyFiles 3.0 uses the PeerGuardian IP list format, different from the TrustyFiles format of TrustyFiles 2.4. Visit the Bluetack web site to convert from the 2.4 TrustyFiles format to the 3.0 PeerGuardian format.
  3. After you install TrustyFiles 3.0 copy or move the converted blocklist file to c:\Program Files\TrustyFiles\Data\Blocklist.dat.

If you've made additions or changes to the default blocklist:

  1. These changes will be lost. First manually record all additions and changes.
  2. After TrustyFiles 3.0 installation, use the Bloclist manager to download the default blocklist.
  3. Re-apply your additions and changes to the new blocklist via the TrustyFiles Options.

Problems?
Connection problems

  1. Get the Microsoft Windows XP SP2 update. The SP2 upgrade can cause problems with TrustyFiles network and download connections. Get info and a Windows fix.
  2. Difficult connecting to the P2P networks? See our Connections Guide.

Startup and operations problems

If TrustyFiles crashes on start-up, simply restart the program. Read this section if crashes continue or TrustyFiles operation makes your system unnaturally slow.

Windows is known to cause occasional errors.

  • Windows sets incorrect file rights. This error results in files not being deleted when they should, such as when TrustyFiles is being removed. Installing an update on top of files that weren't properly removed results in mismatched program and data files. Remove TrustyFiles again and ensure these files are indeed removed.
  • Corrupted data files. Windows may corrupt data files if TrustyFiles is interrupted before a file is properly saved or upon other system glitches. TrustyFiles is programmed to ignore or recover from most corrupted files. But some files can cause TrustyFiles to crash.

Try the following in order. Use Windows Explorer to view and delete TrustyFiles program and data files. Always exit TrustyFiles before deleting any TrustyFiles files.

  1. Make sure TrustyFiles system files are deleted on a major update. If you're doing a major upgrade and removing TrustyFiles prior to installing an update, make sure the program file c:\Program Files\TrustyFiles\TrustyFiles.exe is removed. Make sure any other files specified in the installation directions are also removed.
  2. Remove the shared files file. The location is c:\Program Files\TrustyFiles\Data\Shares.dat.
  3. Remove the Incomplete Folder and all its files. The default location is c:\Program Files\TrustyFiles\Incomplete\.
  4. Remove the Torrents Folder and all its files. The default location is c:\Program Files\TrustyFiles\Torrents\.
  5. Remove all TrustyFiles references in the registry. The registry is an important Windows system file. We cannot provide technical support in how to use it. So you're on you're own. If you are unfamiliar with editing the registry, find a guide on the Internet like this one. Fully remove TrustyFiles. Start the window registry. Search for TrustyFiles in all keys, classes, and values. Remove all registry keys found.
  6. Software conflicts. A few software programs and operating system settings may interfere with TrustyFiles. See our software and operating system advisory.
